Myrtle The Turtle

Walt: retell the story

One day at school, in the morning Miss Tarry’s class had a turtle called Myrtle. The class took good care of Myrtle. They even took a walk around the classroom. Myrtle liked the students. After that Miss Tarry took Myrtle inside the aquarium.

Myrtle was still and the heater was broken. Emma shouted “Mrs Tarry!” Miss Tarry came running. It’s Murtle. Something happened to Myrtle. Miss Tarry looked into the aquarium and she saw the broken heater. She even saw Myrtle lying very still. Miss Tarry quickly turned off the power. Also she carefully lifted Myrtle’s limp body out of the aquarium. All of the children gathered around. Nobody said a word. Also some of the children also cried.

All of the children had turns holding Myrtle. “Lets bury Myrtle in the garden”, suggested Emma. “We can still have her near us” said Emma. The children liked Emma’s idea. Talialofa helped Emma dig the hole in the garden. Some children drew pictures for Myrtle and wrote letters to her. Others made paper flowers. Everyone stood on the garden. Emma laid Myrtle carefully on top of the pictures, letters and paper flowers. They missed taking Myrtle for a walk. Two weeks later Emma was standing by the garden. She noticed something moving by the cross. Something was coming up out of the ground. “Miss Tarry!” Emma screamed. Miss tarry and the other children came running. “What is it?” They all asked. Emma pointed to the garden.

Everyone was silent. “It’s Myrtle!” Cried Emma. Emma’s wiped all of the dirt on her. Myrtle had a sore leg but she’s Ok. The children and Miss Tarry were happy.
